Kurukshetra University (KUK) is a state university located in Kurukshetra, Haryana. It was established in 1956 by the then governor of Punjab, Chandeshwar Prasad Narayan Singh, a Sanskrit scholar. The university is named after the holy land of Kurukshetra, where the epic battle of Mahabharata and the message of Bhagavad Gita took place. The university has a vision of being a distinguished centre of academic excellence and research The university offers various courses in fields like arts, languages, social sciences, life sciences, science, education, Indic studies, engineering, technology, law, commerce, and management The university is accredited by NAAC with A+ grade and recognised by the UGC The university has several colleges, schools, and institutes on its campus, as well as regional centres in Jind and Haryana The university also has five centres of excellence for research on topics such as Saraswati river, earthquake studies, environmental sciences, information technology, and advanced materials. The university follows a weighted average pattern to calculate grades, with the first and second semester contributing 20% to the aggregate marks and each further semester, up to the eighth, contributing 10%. The university was ranked 99 among universities in India by the NIRF in 2020
