The college was established in 1996 and is affiliated with the Dr. D Y Patil University, Pune. The college is recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and is also NAAC-accredited 
The college also has a 1,000-bed multi-specialty hospital, which provides high-quality healthcare services to patients. The hospital has various departments, including general and specialty medicine, trauma and emergency care, psychiatry, neurosurgery, oncology, cardiology, own entrance exam for admission to its undergraduate medical program, i.e., MBBS. The entrance exam is called the All India Common Entrance Test (AICET), and it is conducted in offline mode (pen-and-paper-based).

The AICET exam consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) in the following subjects:

•  Physics - 40 Questions
   Chemistry - 40 Questions
   Biology - 80 Questions (Zoology – 40, Botany – 40)

The exam duration is three hours, and the exam paper is available in English language only. 

The exam is conducted at various centers across India.To be eligible for the AICET exam, candidates must fulfill the following criteria:

Candidates must have passed their Class 12th or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as main subjects.

Candidates must have scored a minimum of 50% marks in their Class 12th or equivalent examination. For reserved category candidates, the minimum marks required are 40%.

Candidates must be at least 17 years old by December 31st of the academic year.

After the exam, the college will release a merit list based on the candidates' scores in the AICET exam. Candidates who qualify for the AICET exam will be called for counseling, after which they can secure admission to the MBBS program at Dr. D Y Patil Medical College, Hospital, and Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune.
